18 Mar NJ GLOBE: Howard, Friedman Announce Assembly Bids In 13th District
By Nikita Biryukov
Democratic candidates Erin Howard and Allison Friedman announced bids in the thirteen legislative district Thursday.
“I’m a working mom,” said Howard. “I know what it’s like to balance running a small business while raising three children. I want to be a voice for small business owners, for our kids, and for everyone who lives, works, and raises a family here in Monmouth County.”
Friedman is an attorney and sits on the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District board.
They’ll run on a slate with State Senate candidate Vincent Solomeno in the solidly-Republican 13th legislative district.
Though other Republicans in Monmouth have been pressed by growing Democratic strength, that tide appears to have left the 13th district’s electorate largely untouched.
Republican Assembly members Gerald Scharfenberger (R-Middletown) and Serena DiMaso (R-Holmdel) won their seats without difficulty in 2019, outpacing Democratic challengers by roughly 8,000 votes — a margin of about nine points.
“Property taxes, schools, and state funding are all tied together,” Friedman said. “My priority is financial fairness and ensuring that kids get the best education we can give them. The current system is broken. We fix it by repealing the system that inflates our property values and reduces state aid to public schools.”
Friedman ran for the seat in 2019 and 2013.
